The writing is good and there's a lot of promise. When I first read the description for Alexandra Bracken's 2010 debut Brightly Woven that little part of me stirred and thought, “Hey, this book could be *THE* book!” Dare I dream? Review: Normally I avoid hardcore fantasy at all cost because I can never keep track of who is who and what the magic rules are, among other reasons, but I easily followed Brightly Woven and ended up really enjoying it. I was particularly drawn to their cuffs and bracelets – Natural agate stones, brightly woven friendship bands and colorful beaded bracelets fixed onto handmade gilded bronze and golden cuffs. While I was in the middle of Brightly Woven, I found it a pleasant read even though I wasn't connecting to the characters.
